Chrome’s Split View and PDF Tools: Three Features Explained

A brief overview of Chrome’s split view, PDF annotations, and direct saving to Google Drive, based on Google’s February 2026 announcement.

Google announced three Chrome productivity features on February 19, 2026. This recap explains their purpose; it is not a report of a new October release or a hands-on test.

Two tabs together

Split view displays two tabs side by side within the browser. It is intended to reduce repeated switching between pages—for example, when keeping reference material beside your work.

Notes inside PDFs

Google’s announcement describes highlighting and adding notes directly in Chrome’s PDF viewer. For simple annotations, this can remove the extra step of opening a separate application. It does not establish that Chrome replaces a full PDF editor.

Save a PDF to Drive

The third feature sends PDFs from Chrome to Google Drive without a separate download-and-upload workflow. Google says these files go into a folder called Saved from Chrome.

Before saving a document to the cloud, check that you are using the intended account and are comfortable storing it there.
